Gunfight Mode Returns for MWII with New Maps

Gunfight is a four-player, duo-against-duo game mode featuring small cage-match-style maps.

It is a contemporary classic from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® (2019) and a precursor to Call of Duty®: Warzone™ Gulag confrontations.

Each round, two duos spawn on either side of a map with the same random Loadout.

A duo wins a round when they reduce the opposing duo’s health to zero or the first duo who captures an Overtime flag at the center of the map wins.

Ties can occur if duos have the same health, and the Overtime flag is not captured at the end of a round’s overtime period.

The first duo to win six rounds wins the match.

The mode features new maps, including the Warzone 2.0 Gulag Blacksite and fan favorite Shipment.

Introduction of Map Rotation:

  • New maps added to the game’s Multiplayer map pool.
  • Three new core maps and two battle maps added at launch as well as in-season.
  • New locales, familiar battle maps, and the first night time infiltration in Modern Warfare II.
  • New modes added to the weekly playlist rotation updates.

New Maps:

Pelayo’s Lighthouse: A core map based on a small, craggy island in the rain with a lighthouse uniquely offering guidance to passing ships.

Black Gold: A core map based on the Rohan Oil section of Al Mazrah, the first iteration of night operations in Modern Warfare II.

Rohan Oil: A battle map that expands the core map and widens the combat arena across Warzone 2.0.

Sattiq Cave Complex: A battle map south of Rohan Oil providing an interesting mix of verticality, small building skirmishes, and interior combat via an intricate cave network.

Alboran Hatchery: Another brand-new core map to be released at midseason.

Gunfight OSP:

Gunfight OSP mode variant to be available during the season as part of regular playlist updates.

Players have to grab weapons and equipment spread out across the map instead of receiving a random loadout every round.

New Modes:

Cranked: A mode that takes Team Deathmatch and amps up the intensity by putting a countdown on any Operator who earns an elimination.

Face Off: A classic small team mode originally from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 and more recently brought back in Modern Warfare® (2019) as a 3v3 mode.

GW Infected: Everything you loved about Infected, now on a larger battle map.

Map Details:

Alley: Strike teams prepare to go into a small marketplace cleared out in the Al Mazrah region.

Blacksite: A training ground for Operators wanting to return to the warzone, also serving as the new Warzone 2.0 Gulag for Al Mazrah.

Shipment: The OG since 2007; get your sea legs as soon as the timer hits zero, lest you get thrown overboard.

Exhibit: Another Gunfight locale among the core four locations at launch.

MW2 Season 3 Roadmap – Warzone 2.0 Overview:

Massive Resurgence mode is eminent, with up to 150 players able to drop in for Resurgence across Al Mazrah.

Plunder mode is returning, set to launch during Season 03.

Redeploy Drones will reach Al Mazrah.

Operators can protect themselves with Tempered Plate Carriers.

Perk Packages will be available in-season.

UAV Towers will appear in Battle Royale.

DMZ will have a new Barter System and additional missions from a new REDACTED faction.

New bosses will appear, and Operators can tinker with their Contraband workbench before facing them.

Ranked Play arrives at mid-season.

Resurgence Comes to Al Mazrah:

A new version of Resurgence mode called Massive Resurgence is available in addition to Ashika Island.

Massive Resurgence is a Resurgence mode on the larger Al Mazrah map, with increased player count.

Plunder Arrives In-Season:

Plunder is a respawn-enabled, squad-against-squad mode where the team with the most Cash wins.

Operators can use their Loadouts right from the first drop and will redeploy with a reduced portion of their current Cash if eliminated.

Plunder mode is a great way to practice with your Loadout before hopping into competitive matches.

New Gulag in Al Mazrah:

Eliminated Operators will enter a new Gulag in Al Mazrah, known as the Blacksite.

The Blacksite is a separate training ground for Operators wanting to return to the warzone.

The largest MW2 Season 3 Roadmap DMZ updates yet:

Barter System

This system lets you swap items for other valuables at Buy Stations, allowing you to stock up and get what you need.

While there’s no peer-to-peer trading through this system, you’re still free to swap items with friendly Operators during a match.

Workbench

Found near Buy Stations, the Workbench allows you to modify Contraband weapons.

For a fee, you can add or remove attachments you’ve unlocked for the weapon platform, making it easier to customize your loadout.

Active Duty Operator Slots

In Season 03, you’ll have three Active Duty Operator Slots, which means you’ll have three separate Operators with their own on-soldier items, including your Backpack, Plate Carrier, Killstreaks, Self-Revive, and Gas Mask.

This allows you to choose which Operator to bring in for each infiltration and tailor your loadout to the mission.

New Faction

MW2 Season 3 Roadmap revealed an unknown faction, REDACTED, with three mission tiers at launch and two more to come in-season.

New Missions and Contract

There will be a new set of faction missions and a new Secure Supplies Contract, which flags containers in the Exclusion Zone with essential gear for your Operator.

New Bosses

Prepare to face two new bosses across the various Exclusion Zones, with rumors of a mysterious entity deep underground in Al Mazrah.

Stay tuned for a dedicated DMZ blog to be released before Season 03’s launch, which will provide more details on new Backpack and Plate Carrier types.
